Beautiful short movie directed by Ana Cembrero from Valencia, Spain

Described by the artists as an emotional journey, CINÉTICA, shows through the body the ambiguity of a real and imaginary world where a woman inhabits, searches, dances, fights or plays, without separating what is lived and what is dreamed.

to be free...

"It shouldn't hurt me to be free
It's what I really need
To pull myself together
But if it's so good being free
Would you mind telling me
Why I don't know what to do with myself"

Portalegre

No problems when you're in nature...

Once more, enjoying the weekend by going for a long 10km walk in Marvão, and Cabeço de Vide, Portalegre. The autumn colors inspire introspective thoughts: where do I want to go? what can I do better? where can I help?

Portugal is going through a rough time. The feeling of disbelieve in the rulers of our society is huge. Who can we trust? This feeling of not knowing in who to trust ruins the necessary spirit of community. We need to feel that we know and that we can count on our neighbors, in our politicians, in our banks, in our private companies. There can be no prosperity in a dying society. Making money at all cost is just feeding the increasing material and spiritual poverty.

We are getting poorer when we act only as individuals, and not as part of mankind. Who is teaching our children, who is taking care of our elders, who is sharing with the needed, who is giving a warm smile to the depressed?

To share an inspiring experience (hope you join me next time!):

Passeios...

Dias completos : ) bom...

Super Sprint Triathlon... CHECK!

At first I was feeling really nervous. I was wondering if people around me were fully aware of what they were about to do? Because I wasn't... I didn't read the instructions, I went there just to try something, but just when I got there I realized that people meant business over there, no kids allowed! but I did ok! Just once I tried to go over a policeman, but he was impecable, he didn't move an inch!

So, to have it proven, for my grandchildrem, here the pictures:

The dark side of the lenses - Mickey Smith

To live creatively, to experience the simple great things: the way a leaf falls from the tree, moving shadows from clouds, the way waves pass through you... keep doing what you really like to do, and eventually you'll be very good at it.

Last Lecture

This is an "old" video, but today I remembered it again, and it still amazes me… This is Randy Pausch “Last Lecture”. He was a Computer Science teacher at Carnegie Mellon University, when he found out he had Pancreatic Cancer. After trying different treatments he spoke to his students about his childhood dreams. He died in the 25th July, 2008.

4000 km

From Lisbon to San Sebastian, a bit of Guggenheim and moving on to Biarritz, a high end class living small town with lovely longboard waves. From Biarritz to Lourdes, and Pau, land of infinite roundabouts, and up to Tourmalet, to be a part of the Great Tour of France (poor Amstrong looking so very tired...). Stormy weather, big clouds and heavy showers! Let's head up to the beach. Fancy Cadaqués, where Dalí chose to be inspired. And then, beaches after beaches, warm ocean but getting more and more populated as we move on to the west. A little stop in Águilas, for a special pizza ice-cream in Venezia's Gelateria. Thoughts of visiting Granada and Alhambra, good choice. Escaping the heat by going high up in Sierra Nevada. Sevilha, and Lisbon again. The end result: 4000 km by car.

Next time, checking the weather first…

Hino do clube do Absinto

Com uma chama e sem temores
Cinco membros fundadores te criaram ardente e puro,
Um dia seremos uma nação,
Sem fígado e sem tostão,
Unidos cambaleando para o futuro.

Baco te criou, eu te consumo,
Com tijuana, drambuie ou sumo,
Sempre serás bem acolhido,
Dentro do nosso clube singelo,TU.

TU, és rei e senhor TU, que afogas a nossa dor, TU, que és livre como o fumo de um charuto;

Come September...

Speech of Arundhati Roy, author of "The God of Small Things"
Transcription here: http://www.nmazca.com/verba/roy.htm

"Donald Rumsfeld said that his mission in the War Against Terror was to persuade the world that Americans must be allowed to continue their way of life. When the maddened king stamps his foot, slaves tremble in their quarters. So, standing here today, it's hard for me to say this, but "The American Way of Life" is simply not sustainable. Because it doesn't acknowledge that there is a world beyond America."

Praia das Pedrinhas

"We can't be useful to ourselves unless we're useful to others. Whether we like it or not, we're all connected, and it is unthinkable to be happy all by oneself. Anyone concerned only by his own well-being will suffer eventually. Anyone concerned with the well-being of others takes care of himself without even thinking about it. Even if we decide to remain selfish, let us be intelligently selfish - let us help others"

Run Giby Run

I've been here before. Feeling as if I'm just too late and missed the train that was going to take me to the right job, the right attitude, the life where I am happy and unfraid. You can live a life without any goals, but you won't get anywhere. If you live just for the sake of living, the past will be just as the future, you won't get anything to measure up your progress, your personal changes, your growth.

You have to set goals, and you can't settle for less (if it feels less for you). You need to feel good with your choices, and in order that to happen, you cannot compare your life with the life of others. Let them be. You have your own set of dreams, and silly things that make you happy. Don't expect others to understand why you're chosing this or that way. So you need to move on that gut feeling. BUT, when you do choose, keep going. Don't look back, or change your mind again. Go. Go and don't give up. One day you'll look back and see how far you've gone. There will be no space for regrets. There will be a very strong you, a very happy you, that is proud of who you are and that it is good for others (because you inspire).

30

One very rounded number... one juicy orange, one smoky red afternoon sun, one very full moon. My birthday this year happened in a very special way, and during all day I thought about the people I have met, and how grateful I am for that. I also thought fondly about those special people that I haven’t seen in a while, but that I hope one day to meet them again, somewhere in that future where hope also exists.

Without fears, few regrets, here I go…

On my way to 30s, oh yeah...

you do it to yourself...

Why do I feel a certain peace in posting thoughts and share pictures in my blog?
Today it made a lot of sense to think that in this virtual space I have the freedom to reinvent myself. Here I can write as I wish I would always feel: to feel always passionate, to feel alive, to feel super strong, and to feel love in everything I do, to feel unconditional love for everyone.

Yes, here I can be who I wish I was a bit more in my life.

Jedno pivo prosím (another beer please)

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s better to be a tourist in your own town and feel at home in a foreigner country.

- Dobrý den (Good day!)

Praha it’s one very luxurious city. Anywhere you look there’s beauty. Czech women are like mannequins, and they know it, and they’re not shy to show it. Everywhere there’re fancy cars driving around (I get it that’s cheap for them to buy a bmw or an audi, still…) and the buildings, oh wow, the architecture… well, imagine a city made of wedding cakes. That’s how it looks like. Sugar coated art nouveau, renaissance and baroque buildings, sprinkled with strange and surprising sculptures. David Cerny is the name of a very interesting and controversial Czech artist. But there’s so much to appreciate. The Mucha or Kafka Museums, the Kampa (for modern art). But, I didn’t really had the time to see all this. I just wandered around the city a couple of times, and then I would go back to work/play in the really cool project “Arthole” Hostel. One early morning I crossed the King Charles Brigde, and because I didn’t had a map with me I detoured from the normal turisty path. To my delight, from one open window, I could hear the beautiful sound of an opera singer. I stood there for a while, drifting in my own imagination. Music really touches directly your spirit. Looking into someone eyes can do that too.

One thing I really appreciate in these cities is the mobility they offer. From one tram to another, or just walking, there’s no need to use a car, ever! From the lust parks up in the hills, to the night clubs spread out through the city, you’re fine just with some coins in your pocket. Be sure to save always 30 kronas for one last beer (0,5l). I felt at home. Next time I’ll try to paddle in the Vltava (the river that goes through the city like a big snake); and I’ll go visit the Giant Mountains (Krkonose Mountains)– mountain Snezka is the highest peak of the country (1602m).

Děkuji for all the wonderful moments. Until next time…

Francis and the Lights

This could be me, dancing in my room. This guy is weird; the way he sings and dances it's weird. But, I just think that we have to be tolerant towards ourselves and others, and things, and whatever we hear, look, smell or taste that makes us lift our eyebrows. I don't like lifted eyebrows.

smells that make us happy...

is is all i got right now, but it's something...
Ridding on the passenger seat, sometimes I remember to put my head out of the window, to feel the wind, to capture sounds, to watch people in their automobiles (say it with a french accent..), and it feels so good...

So today I want to share a special list of smells that make me happy:

- Fresh baked bread;
- After it rains;
- Old books;
- Summer night air
- Popcorns;
- Crayola crayons
- Johnson baby powder
- New mown grass
- Freshly washed, line-dried bedding;
- Freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee;

- Fresh flowers...
- ....

Now it's your turn...

To inspire....

I was away for the weekend. Went to beautiful Serra da Estrela. When I got back, Melissa had a surprise for me. Her 1st flower...

Friday, April 23, 2010

Her name is Melissa...

This an orchid that I named Melissa because when we first met, I was interested in a songwriter that I encounter in San Francisco and her name is Melissa Rapp. I thought this beautiful orchid should have the name of someone I see as a beautiful dreamer. Melissa is awakening to Spring, getting all her strength focused in blooming, and that is one very special thing to notice everyday. So today I though I could start posting some photos of that energy. Here’re the 1st pictures…

- Robin Dunbar, autor de “How many friends does one person need?”

Raw beauty...

A violinist in the metro...

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle-aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.
A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year-old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100. . . .

Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experiment could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

You can also listen to a brief clip from Josh’s subway concert:

Florence and the Machine "DOG DAYS ARE OVER" Music Video from LEGS MEDIA on Vimeo.

"Florence is the shamanic leader of a surreal orchestra where spiritual elation explodes into smokey psychedelic anarchy. Each musical element of the song is personified by a group of colorful characters that combine 60’s girl groups, Hinduism, gospel choirs, drum circles, paganism and pyrotechnics. Florence is a painted primal force of nature that whips a religious experience into a riot." LEGS

Then he said he had a gift for me, and out of the bloom, badabim badaboom, he gave me 1,000,000€!!! yeah, yeah, Happy Fools Day! Peta rabeta fechada na gaveta!!!

You have to feed your soul in order to feel happy, to feel blessed

- enjoy nature
- feel the sun
- listen to the rain
- read a book
- take a long bath
-.....

math problem

Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors. Behind one door is a car, behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say #1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say #3, which has a goat. He says to you, "Do you want to pick door #2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice of doors?

...
The answer: yes you should switch. The first door has a 1/3 chance of winning, but the second door has a 2/3 chance. If you change 2 times out of 3 you get a car.
