WHATEVER GOAL IS IN YOUR MIND, LOOK AT IT LIKE THIS! READY, SET... GO!

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Everyday, great acts of courage happen. I mean great! The kind of courage that sustains Life or Death. Everyday someone is fighting for their survival, or for the health of their dearest ones. Everyday someone is praying for Peace. If we really listen to what is happening in the world, we'll see that our needy desires that leave us frustrated and angry are a waste of Life. Not that we should all be fighting for something, but at least making a significant effort to bring in more positive energy, love, compassion and forgiveness...

Chocolat...

On a rainy Sunday, there's much to think and conspire. Here's the thought that showed up in a lazy moment of couch random-movie watching.

The young village priest, still figuring out is own voice, finally speaks the truth of his heart... and it goes like this:

"Père Henri: I'm not sure what the theme of my homily today ought to be. Do I want to speak of the miracle of Our Lord's divine transformation? Not really, no. I don't want to talk about His divinity. I'd rather talk about His humanity. I mean, you know, how He lived His life, here on Earth. His *kindness*, His *tolerance*... Listen, here's what I think. I think that we can't go around... measuring our goodness by what we don't do. By what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think... we've got to measure goodness by what we *embrace*, what we create... and who we include.

Short Story...

Twin babies are talking in the mother's womb:

Do you believe in life after birth?
Yes, I do.

How stupid you are! How would such a life look?
I think it will be lighter there, we will walk on our own legs and eat using our mouth.

But everyone knows it is impossible! We can only eat through our umbilical cord!
I am sure it is possible. I can imagine it.

But no one has ever come back from there. Therefore life simply ends with birth. Life is a suffering in darkness!
No, you are wrong. After birth we will see our Mother and she will take care of us.

Oh! Do you believe in Mother? And where do you think she is?
She is everywhere around us, we are inside her and we can not live without her.

Nonsense! I have never seen any Mother, so there is no Mother at all.
And I believe in Mother with all my heart. In silence I hear her singing sometimes. She loves us. Our life after birth is going to be beautiful. That is my belief.

The Life of Pi, very inspiring!

“Sometimes attaining the deepest familiarity with a question is our best substitute for actually having the answer.”

Brian Greene

We don't know what made us or what we're made off. We live learning from our mistakes and successes. Life is Huge, but too short to learn all about it. So we should not get frustrated or angry because we feel we've been left alone, drifting in an infinite sea, unprotected from storms and dangerous creatures. We can get familiar with those feelings of aloneness and fear, and instead of hiding them, we can bring them to the light. We can say, I'm afraid, but I'm also strong, smart and loved. I don't know how to be better, but I can live close to that question, How can I be better? The answer lies in the question...

And the story we tell ourselves must come from our effort to emphasize, to illuminate, to colorize  our words, actions and feelings. We can tell our story with ideas that no one believes but that make our life the beautiful experience it should be, or we can tell a story that makes sense to everyone, but brings no warmth or brightness in us. Choose magic, for we don’t know reality that well, enough to say that magic is an illusion. Believe in your joy, in your love, in your spirit.

“If you stumble about believability, what are you living for? Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. What is your problem with hard to believe?”

Life of Pi, Yann Martel

The only “thing” that has always stopped me, and broke me apart of the most important “things” in my life, was fear. So if you have questions that you can’t find the answer, be friend with those questions. If you don’t know what do with your life, tell your self the story of someone who didn’t know what do with their life, but tell it the best and joyful way you can. And if you feel scared for the changes that come from that new storyteller, remember that fear deserves no respect. To be fearful is to choose failure. Fight against it with grace!

“I must say a word about fear. It is life's only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unerring ease. It begins in your mind, always. One moment you are feeling calm, self-possessed, happy. Then fear, disguised in the garb of mild-mannered doubt, slips into your mind like a spy.”

Life of Pi, Yann Martel

A good exercise to change into a new mindset:

"You have to find a few spaces in your life, a few moments like oases in deserts, where you simply close your eyes and go beyond society, move into yourself, into your own womb. This is what meditation is. The society is there. Simply close your eyes and forget the society, and become alone. No rules exist there, no character is needed, no morality, no words, no language. You can be loose and natural inside.

Grow into that loose-and-naturalness. Even if there is a need for outer discipline, remain wild inside. If one can remain wild inside and still practice things which are needed in the society, then soon he can come to a point where he simply transcends.

Óooooh! Tippi the true Nature-Girl : )

Tippi  Degré was born in 4 June 1990 in Namibia, among wild animals and tribespeople. Now she is a french teenager living in Paris. Can you imagine what the city life must look to her? I bet it looks more scary than the leopard's "playing" bite during the video, or the sanke for that matter...

Nice...

Music & Lyrics - Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

Clarity...

Patience...

A senhora regozijou.

... to Be.

“…And we pray,
not for new
 earth or heaven,
but to be quiet
in heart, and in eye clear.

What we need is here.”

Afinal, quem é a sociedade?
Senti-me envergonhada.

Cuddling Playlist for the Weekend...

What is the greatest accomplishment in life? Without any doubt it is developing the capacity and freedom to simply be ourselves, as we truly are. Not only being ourselves, but feeling good about who we are and what we do, feeling respect for our own Self. Then we go through this life freely, as though in a spontaneous play, and life is more enjoyable than we ever dreamed.

"The unknown is an abstraction; the known, a desert; but what is half-known, half-seen, is the perfect breeding ground for desire and hallucination"

- From: http://butdoesitfloat.com/

Can we Love more?

Christmas and the whole greetings season is gone past us and I wonder, where does all the “good will to all mankind” goes? In this time of year everyone gets in synch with thoughts of giving, caring, empathizing, but they don’t seem to last. I dare to say that it lasts until the morning hangover of the 1st day of the year.

A question asked by a reporter* made me think, is it possible to actually truly care about the big human tribe? Could we really care equally about strangers as we care about our closest ones? He asks this literally. Imagine this he says, “Say I bought a fancy pair of shoes for my son. In light of the one-tribe calculus of interests, I should probably give these shoes to someone who doesn’t have any. I do research and find a child in a poor part of Chicago who needs shoes to walk to school every day. So, I take them off my son (replacing them with Walmart tennis shoes) and head off to the impoverished Westside. On the way, I see a newspaper story about five children who are malnourished in Cambodia. Now I can’t give the shoeless Chicago child the shoes, because I should sell the shoes for money and use the money to get food for the five malnourished kids. On my way to sell the shoes, I remember that my son has an important job interview for a clean-water nonprofit organization and if he gets the job, he’ll be able to help save whole villages from contaminated water. But he won’t get the job if he shows up in Walmart tennis shoes. As I head back home, it dawns on me that for many people in the developing world, Walmart tennis shoes are truly luxurious when compared with burlap sack shoes, and since needs always trump luxuries I’ll need to sell the tennis shoes too; and on, and on, and on.”

He has a point, it’s not really possible nowadays to distribute equally all of our belongings. There are too many social differences in our society and other societies beyond ours. But to live only by caring just for our closest one, does not make things better. We can share what we have that will not be missed, be it money, time, or affection, and with such actions we can make a difference, right? The opposite happens so often! Someone who is very unhappy with their life, “vomits” on you all their frustrations because you didn’t choose to run in traffic as fast as them. You’ll be upset, and you’ll share your thoughts of frustration and they’ll ripple through till shore. Other people will feel them and share.

So in terms of being a good citizen, meaning that you’re aware of your surroundings and you care about your community, we all could be good citizens if we stepped off our busy bee lives, and gave just a bit of our time helping out. That’s not too much to ask, yet, are you doing it?

How can one really feel that Buddha-like compassion for all creatures? Most thinkers will say that the way to do this is to start feeling as if the entire human race is our extended family, but maybe as Cicero said, “society and human fellowship will be best served if we confer the most kindness on those with whom we are most closely associated.”

Most studies on Happiness confirm that “the most important element in a good life (eudaimonia) is a close family and friendship ties — ties that bind. These are not digital Facebook friends nor are they needy faraway strangers, but robust proximate relationships that you can count on one or two hands. (...) As Graham Greene reminds us, “one can’t love humanity, one can only love people.”

Who are you loving? Could you love even more people?

É preciso recomeçar a viagem. Sempre. O viajante volta já."

# Another Good Idea

Remember to play... and choose Life.

I’ve lost how you just forget about others and play like a little kid, as if no one is watching. I’ve forgot how to create for the simple pleasure of it and I’ve become too fearful of wasting time, and I waste time just by worrying about it. I forgot about the simplicity of being alive and the greatness of it. I’ve become too attached to comfort, stability, and I’ve become fearful of change, of tracing my very own path. I’ve grown old by being scared of not being adult enough. I’ve forgot how to play with Life.

I hope Passion visits me again. I hope Love returns with a long tight hug, whispering everything will be ok. I hope Goofiness springs out of my pores, contaminating everyone around me, and everyone around them. I hope Courage roars loud inside my heart, and my eyes reflect the sweet shimmer of ocean’s brightness. I hope that just like a wave, I will wash away back into the beautiful wild beaches of my own very essence, and I can become Free, Strong, and Kind towards myself, and towards others.

I know very little about everything. Knowing that should be enough to Forgive, to Understand, and to be Humble about Life. Of course I have many lessons to learn, and many mistakes to make, and many battles to win. I’ve forgot that Life is happening, right here, right now.

“Let’s go everywhere, even though we’re scared, because it’s Life and it’s happening, it’s really, really happening” (from “You, Me & Everyone we know”)
